North Star partners with WEnergy for clean energy supply


North Star Meat Merchants, Inc. contracted WEnergy Power Pilipinas, Inc. to provide a rooftop solar system for the food retailer’s cold storage complex in Bulacan.

WEnergy Power Pilipinas, a partner company of WEnergy Global Pte, based in Singapore. Ltd., will supply an 830.7 kilowatt-peak solar photovoltaic rooftop system to the North Star Refrigeration Plant Complex.

“The project adds a sustainable solution to North Star’s global business operations, one that aligns with their vision to reduce the carbon footprint and costs of its end-to-end fresh frozen meat supply chain across the Philippines,” North Star said. .

In 2021, North Star increased its storage capacity to 4.8 million kilograms (kg) from 2 million kg. In 2022, the company expects its storage capacity to increase to 6.4 million kg, as well as higher energy consumption.

With the solar photovoltaic energy infrastructure, it plans an annual capacity of more than one million kilowatt hours which allows a 15% reduction in its monthly electricity expenses and a 23% reduction in its carbon footprint.

The company also expects to reduce its energy costs by more than 15%, with an additional 2% increase in savings each year, which equates to more than $2.6 million in electricity bill savings across the country. over the next 25 years.
